Meet The Founder: Eric Carroll

My name is Eric Carroll, and I'm one of the co-founders of Desert Steel.
Desert Steel was born out of the initial love of a saguaro. I went to my cousin's wedding in Scottsdale, and there's this forty-foot saguaro. It was just amazing. I wondered, how come nobody is trying to grow a saguaro in Kansas, where I'm from?
After two or three minutes worth of research, I realized that was never gonna happen. I just dismissed the idea, and it was my father-in-law that came to me and said, "Well, you call yourself an artist. Let's see if we can build something that looks like one."
And we started messing around with this saguaro prototype, if you will. It took a while to get it where we felt like we were halfway doing it justice. So we went to a home show, and the next thing you know, we just started selling them, and it kind of went from there.
